Marquês de Pombal square and roundabout

The concept for lighting Praça Marquês de Pombal was to provide orientation cues to drivers after the new design of the roundabout. The interior ring is lit with a warm orange colour — leading to orange streets — and the outer ring is lit with a whiter colour temperature, leading to whiter streets.
The statue is meant to stand out in the spatial hierarchy by having its pavement lit with the same colour temperature as the outer ring of the roundabout.
At the same time, the public lighting columns were repositioned to clear the view towards Parque Eduardo VII and the columns at its top.
The cycling path is punctuated by dots of light that converge to the centre of Parque Eduardo VII, creating an imaginary vanishing point.
